Salsa Montuno-Uk is a fresh, original and progressive approach to Salsa, based in Bristol. Along side the tuition programme by qualified members of the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts) , the intention is to run Specialist Classes and Workshops in the local Bristol area, bringing some of the UK’s top  Teachers / Performers to the locality on subjects including Styling, Technique and Body Movement for both Men and Women.

Since February 2009 we have now started running alternating Workshops for Ladies Styling & Technique Workshops and Partner Technique Workshops for Men & Ladies to learn and Improve together, whilst learning more in depth knowledge of the music and turn patterns involved in Salsa, and to understand the Musicality within the Dance. (see Workshop page for details and Guest Teachers).

The team has also grown this year as we now run a Monthly Party Night at Warmley Community Centre (see Party page for details). The team now includes, Lee Swift (UKA Qualified Teacher) and our party hosts: Steve Roberts, Vijay Patel and of course Sam Vernon who helps out at the Party night and our  Weekly Classes.

What does Montuno mean?
Montuno is a passage of improvisation in Cuban and salsa numbers, based on a two or three-chord pattern repeated ad-lib under the instrumental or vocal improvisations. The piano often maintains a repeated vamp of guajeos, a process known as montuneando.

Like our name, we provide people with the chance to learn the techniques of Leading and Following, to be able to Improvise during Freestyle dancing, and Express their Own Individualism, but most importantly at a pace that suits your abilities.
